North East Bridge Association held their Summer Pairs competition recently (9th June) at Hexham Bridge Club. The annual competition is open to bridge clubs across the North East of England, and this year it was also part of the Bridge - It's a Big Deal! festival in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The friendly competition attracted 56 people hailing from as far afield as Morpeth, Sunderland and Darlington.

Mary Page and Inga Aiston (pictured, above left) came out victorious, with Peter Avery and Frank Springett (pictured, above right) claiming the runner-up spots.

NEBA chairwoman, Sue Davies, was satisfied with the turnout, stating that: "the numbers attending were twice those last year", indicating a resurgence of bridge’s popularity post Covid.

Residents young and old take part in bridge games within NEBA from youngest member, 10-year-old Sophie Morris, due to represent England's Youth team in Poland this July, to centenarian Derek Rosenvinge, who continues to play weekly.
