EBU Summer Meeting Success!

Submitted by English Bridge Union on

The Summer Meeting took place last weekend in Eastbourne and was widely enjoyed by all.

It was lovely to return to the newly refurbished Winter Garden. We were very pleased to welcome Deputy Mayor Councillor Candy Vaughan who formally opened the event on Thursday evening. Ros Wolfarth was also thanked for her help with preparations for the event and presented with a gift for all her hard work (picture).

The Swiss Pairs Championship for the Harold Poster Cup finished with a three-way tie. First place was resolved based on the number of matches won. Richard Plackett & Mia Deschepper (picture) were awarded the trophy having won the most games. In second place were Tony Verran & Brian Gladman (picture) and in third were Brian Senior & Nigel Bird.

Full details with results, photos and articles from the event can be viewed on the Summer Meeting Hub.

Many members were able to spend time in Eastbourne as well as playing bridge, from trips on the open top bus tour, to wild swimming in the sea.

Some quotes from members who attended the event:

“I thought the event was an absolute success, you should be very proud. It all went very smoothly. One might say a Grand weekend! Next year could you dial down the outside temperature a degree or two.“ - John McCoy, Essex County Chair

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Eastbourne and took part in the Summer Meeting. We hope you enjoyed your time at the congress, and we hope to see you for some - or all - of the Summer Meeting in 2023. We will be sharing more details with you regarding that congress as soon as possible.
