Siyu Ren

I am 21 years old originally from Shenzhen (a city just next to Hong Kong) but I studied in Singapore for 4 years of high school and that was where I first learned the game of Contract Bridge.

I was fascinated by the complexity of the game and played a little too often in the two years leading up to A Levels. That was certainly not so welcomed in a high school where exam results were most important. However, I survived, represented my high school and won various national competitions. Through bridge, I have also met great friends in Singapore, with whom I still keep in touch with.

Since coming to the UK, I was lucky enough to meet Ewa, with whom I developed a partnership and we were soon selected for U26 Women's team for Junior Europeans. I am a great fan of different sorts of bridge conventions and recently I started developed another partnership with Laura Covill for the World Youth Championship next year. My favourite conventions are RKCB and 4sf because even in the most natural system without any modern bidding gadgets, these two conventions are still indispensable.

I am currently in my second year doing Engineering Science at University of Oxford but I will claim that my true passion lies in computer science and bridge. In my free time, I love to hunt for exotic food. I am really thankful for the English Bridge Union for giving me the opportunity to develop my bridge skills to a higher level and many others who have helped me in one or another in my journey of bridge.
