Philip Mason

1938-2021

Philip Mason (14.04.38 – 05.06 21) was presented with the EBU Silver Award at the EBU's AGM in November 2015. 

From English Bridge September 2021 issue: Philip was President of Yorkshire CBA, having been its very successful chairman for 25 years up to 2015. He was a member of the EBU tournament committee and served with distinction as its chairman for some years. He was an EBU Board member and became its vice chairman. He was also the board’s representative to Bridge Great Britain. In 2015 he received the EBU Silver Award for outstanding contribution and recognition of long service as a volunteer at national and county level.

Philip was a leading member of Malton Bridge Club for more than fifty years. He introduced many new players to the game and taught beginners and improvers. One recent student recalled, ‘he was an excellent and patient teacher with a delightful sense of humour’. Philip brought the EBU Northern Summer Congress to Scarborough, and organised other competitions, including the annual Yorkshire Congress, which flourished under his leadership
