Imogen La Chapelle

I’m twenty one and I started playing bridge around eight years ago at my local club, the Norfolk and Norwich, having played cards at home with my family and then being curious after kibitzing my dad. Once he agreed to teach me, we started off with using teddies in the living room as pretend opposition just so that he could explain the rules! It soon developed into me partnering him weekly until I joined the juniors when I was 16.

Once lockdown began, I became a bit more obsessive with my bridge playing and since then have had some success playing with Henry Rose - coming third at the Year End Swiss Pairs and being part of the qualifying team at the Junior Europeans. In the last couple of years, I have also been playing occasionally with Stefano Tommasini and in this time we have won the Portland pairs, the Manchester Swiss pairs, and come a close second in the Easter Congress Swiss pairs.

Outside of bridge, I am in my third year of Medicine at UEA (which does seem to take the back foot to bridge more than it should if I want to become a semi competent doctor in the future!) I also play netball twice a week in a local league.
