Charles Bucknell

Charlie was introduced to bridge in Genoa at the grand old age of 13. He picked up the gist of the game quite quickly and reinvigorated the school bridge club later that same year. Not much later he found himself under the tutelage of Michael Byrne in the U21 England squad. When he aged out of the U21 squad, David Bakhshi took him under his wing in the U26 squad. Since then his game has gone from strength to strength, winning tournaments both at home and abroad whilst representing England and on his own. Charlie’s achievements at the bridge table so far consist of multiple medals and trophies. He brought the Junior Camrose home (three times) and the Channel Trophy as well as winning a bronze medal in the White House Cup. Charlie is also the proud winner of a Junior World Championship Bronze Medal. Charlie has also won medals in Open international tournaments, such as silver in the Scottish Winter Foursomes and bronze in the Swedish Chairman’s Cup. At the National level, Charlie has won gold in the Premier league (Division 3) followed by a bronze in Division Two the next year as well as winning the Portland Bowl. Charlie has also won the 2023 Easter Festival Swiss Teams and the 2022 Summer Meeting Swiss Teams. He has won Canadian and American regional tournaments, he also has his name to many wins at county level including the London Pairs Champion 2022-2023. Charlie is currently the Education Officer for Oxfordshire and has also helped write the EBTA Bridge For All Curriculum.
