Playing Online with Screens

Screens have been used in top-level live events for more than 50 years and are generally welcomed by players because they reduce the number of requests for rulings since they make it harder for unauthorised information to be unintentionally transmitted and they greatly reduce the awareness on the other side of the screen of any breaks in tempo. This idea has been adopted for online bridge by RealBridge, where it is even more effective.

Maud Corbett

Matilda Agnes Alice Pearson was born 14 November 1901, it is thought in Scotland & known as Maud. Her father was John Westall Pearson & her sister Dorothy Pearson, see separate article.

Maud married Eric Blake Harvey on 18 April 1928 at St George, Hanover Square. They had two sons John & Michael who played bridge at the West Kent bridge club in the 1950s. Eric also played bridge & was in the winning Arnold Cup teams in 1949, 1951 & 1954 partnering Leslie Fleming.

I went to night school to learn to play bridge when I was a teenager and there started something that would soon become a lifelong passion.

I was the youngest person on the course and always used to be the youngest player in virtually every club I played in. Of course, time catches up with us all.

As I drifted around the UK, bridge was always with me and something I could rely upon as a constant.

I devoted my working life to General Insurance and owned my own business between 1991 and 2018 where I advised clients on complex commercial insurance.
