Scarborough Summer Congress

- a long weekend bridge holiday for everyone!

Scarborough, 18th - 21st July 2024

This Scarborough Summer Congress will be held at the Crown Spa Hotel over a long weekend in July.

This event is being run by Oliver Cowan on behalf of the EBU.

The four star Crown Spa Hotel in Scarborough is the oldest purpose built hotel in the beautiful coastal resort, with many of the original architectural features still in their prime. Bedroom accommodation is spread over 4 floors accessed through modern lifts and tastefully decorated corridors. The Crown Spa Hotel feature a large air conditioned playing area for bridge, a luxury leisure centre, European restaurant, spa treatment and modern fitness centre. The hotel is located just metres from the sandy South Beach and only 10-minute walk from Scarborough Railway Station, with the picturesque Scarborough Harbour a 20-minute walk away.

There is great value for money in the many restaurants and many of Scarborough's hotels, though there are custom rates in place for those wishing to stay at the venue. Mornings are free to enjoy the many attractions of North Yorkshire (see below). The Swiss Pairs is stratified.

New Event - Category Pairs (incorporating Patrick Jourdain Trophy)

Following the success of the Thursday event in 2023, it will be repeated and the overall winner of the Category Pairs will be awarded the Jim Proctor Trophy. The best Senior Pair will still get the Patrick Jourdain Prize. This 2 session, green pointed, match point pairs event, is open to all players with the highest senior pairing being awarded the Patrick Jourdain Trophy and separate prizes for the best place men's, women's and mixed pairings. The Multiple Team and Swiss Pairs events will be the same as previous years.

To be eligible for the Seniors competitions/prizes at the Congress you should have been born in 1960 or earlier. Following changes to the Seniors criteria by the WBF, in 2023 Seniors' competitions are for those aged 63 or older - see here for more details.

Entry fees are being frozen and while we have additional space, we are not increasing the number of places by many as we are going to make more space in the main room! Rooms can now be booked directly with the hotel.

If you will be late arriving to the venue, please call 07946 393033. Please do not send a text message as this will not be forwarded.
