The Wolfson team (pictured), which included two English bridge players (David Gold and Zia Mahmood) have won the Vanderbilt Teams. Played this year in New Orleans, the Vanderbilt teams is one of the most prestigious competitions on the American bridge calendar.
England were also represented in the event by players of team Knottenbelt (picture), including Tom Townsend, Ben Handley Pritchard, Michael Byrne, Kieran Dyke and Oliver Burgess. They made to the Quarter finals, but lost to team Bernal, a mostly Italian team containing Antonio Sementa, Giorgio Duboin and Alfredo Versace by 32 imps having been ahead at half time. The Knottenbelt's team reached the quarter final after knocking out the number 1 seeds led by Andrew Rosenthal.
