To replace the Lockdown League, which was created at the start of the COVID pandemic for specific circumstances that no longer apply, we are going to institute a new teams league starting in September, played online. The Lockdown League will end this month after the current season.
The format of the new league will be as follows:
- 16-board matches played weekly with seasons of 9 - 11 matches
- Each match played in halves with compulsory change of opponents
- Teams may arrange and set up their own matches on BBO if they wish, at a time agreed by the teams
- Tables for matches will also be available on Realbridge at 7.30pm on Wednesdays for those who prefer, with a TD in attendance, played with screens and self-alerts
- Master points will be awarded for all matches and Realbridge games will be graded for the NGS
- Teams may have up to 8 players and occasional substitutes will also be allowed
- Teams will be assigned to divisions based on their average NGS for the first season
- New teams for subsequent seasons will also be assigned based on NGS but will usually start one division lower than their average NGS suggests
- At the end of each season at least one and usually two teams will be promoted to the next higher division (if there is one) and usually two teams, occasionally three, will be demoted to the next division down
- Entry fees will be £48 per team
Entries for the first season can be made now on My EBU. Entries will close Friday 16th September.
The new teams league will start on Wednesday 21st September.
