House of Lords wins annual match v. Commons

The House of Lords defeated the House of Commons in their annual bridge match yesterday. This event is played by two teams of eight in four stanzas of six boards, with a break in the middle for a sumptuous tea in the House of Lords dining room. This year the Commons took a 32 IMP lead in the first stanza, but the Lords fought back to reverse this and the outcome of a very close finish was that the Lords won by 2 IMPs. The House of Lords now leads the series 26-21.

The Tony Berry Trophy, for best played hand, was won by Evan Harris. He is pictured here receiving the trophy from judge Andrew Robson.

The match was sponsored by Lord Kalms, and organised by the two captains, Baroness Henig, and Bob Blackman MP.

The hands were set by Heather Dhondy. The details and commentary are available for you to read in full below.
