LORDS v COMMONS  Match 2006

The annual Lords v Commons match was held at Crockfords Club on 9th June with the Commons leading the series 16-15.The event was once again generously sponsored by London Export Limited.

The line-ups were as follows.

LORDS

Lord Skelmersdale (capt), Lord Baker, Lords Kalms, Viscount Bledisloe, Lord Stamp, Lady Oppenheim-Barnes, Lady Henig and Lord Goodlad.

COMMONS

Michael Mates (capt), Dr Evan Harris, Dr John Marek, Tony McWalter, Bridget Prentice, Robin Squire, Dr Alan Whitehouse and Brenda Harris.

The match was 8 players a side over 26 boards divided into 4 stanzas with aggregate scoring.

The first stanza went to the Commons by 2040 but by lunch the Lords had hit back taking the second stanza by 2260 thus leading by 220.

A very tight first stanza of the afternoon saw the Commons reduce the deficit by 10 and so go the last now 210 behind.

In yet another close session the Lords came out with +650 so were match winners by the narrow margin of 860.

This result levelled the series at 16-16.

 Stephen Perry of London Export presented the Jack Perry Trophy to the winning captain Lord Skelmersdale  The Tony Berry trophy for the best played hand was award to Lord Kalms for some inspired defence.

Crockfords Club and The English Bridge Union were thanked for their contributions to a most successful day.
