The Silver Plate is Bridge Great Britain’s consolation event for the Gold Cup and is open to all English and Welsh teams knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round of the Gold Cup*. The Silver Plate is administered by the EBU on behalf of BGB. Entry is on an opt-out basis, i.e. eligible teams will be assumed to wish to play unless we are advised to the contrary, and BGB will inform us of the eligible teams shortly after the end of round 2 of the Gold Cup.
* Scottish teams play in a separate 'plate' competition. The winner of this competition enters the Silver Plate at the quarter-final stage.
By contrast with the arrangements announced for EBU knockout competitions in progress when the first Covid lockdown came into force, BGB has decided that the event should continue; and for so long as it is not possible to play face to face, matches must be played online. The revised timetable is below.
