Jon Cooke

My parents taught me to play when I was about eleven. I played with a school friend at our local club in the Nuclear bunker of the local Council. We won the schools pairs and I got to play with David Price in the Harry Scully. At university, I learned to play properly - Tom Townsend bought me a book on bidding and issued rollickings every time time I made a stupid opening lead until I stopped doing it.

Cambridge University had a strong team and we managed to win the silver medal in the 1994 European Universities Championships.

I played very little bridge between 94 and 2002, then started playing more events again. I have won Crockfords, the Spring Fours, Hubert Phillips, Pachabo, Nicko, Corwen and the Brighton Pairs all with different partners and have played for England in the Champions Cup and Camrose.
