A F Bearn

d. 1948

Contract Bridge has lost an able administrator, and the Executive and Officers of the English Bridge Union have lost a keen collaborator and ever helpful friend, by the sad death of A F Bearn, who passed away on 1st January 1948.

He was one of that small band of enthusiasts who visualised and brought into existence the English bridge Union, and he served, prior to the recent war, as Chairman of that body, and he as one of the Founders of the Staffordshire Contract Bridge Association.

He played for England in 1938 when he was partnered by Louis Westel against Northern Ireland. He was a fine Bridge Player and a good companion.

His personality, sportsmanship and companionship will be missed by us all.
